More than in any other part of the world, the US may have one of the most gender-driven eating cultures, leading to fierce debates.

Some say women are genetically predisposed towards sweeter flavours, whilst men prefer things bitter. Others claim that some of our gender driven eating habits can be explained by evolution. Men, the hunters, see meat as a reward and require more protein than women to build muscle mass. Still others say preference is derived from association with qualities people would like to have themselves.

A man who wants to be manly and strong is more likely to choose ‘strong and manly’ food, like meat and beer.

But things change. More women are present in new culinary landscapes. They’re brewing beer and drinking it more than ever before. And meat, according to many women, is ‘the new black’. Recent commercials reflect this.
